Gazelle delivers actionable information at point of care to support happier, healthier lives

Gazelle Hb Variant Test

Over seven percent of the world’s population is at risk of inheriting hemoglobin disorders, including sickle cell disease (SCD) and beta thalassemia. Early diagnosis can prevent tens of thousands of child deaths each year, yet only a small percentage of children in the highest prevalent areas are tested.

Point-of-care testing is the best way to close diagnostic gap for sickle cell, according to experts and organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), the American Society of Hematology (ASH), and the Center for Disease Control (CDC). Gazelle makes it easy and affordable to get diagnostic results at point of care where the need is greatest.

Administration of the test requires minimal training. Test preparation is simple and results are available in just 8 minutes. Reports are stored digitally, or can be transmitted to a printer, laptop, or the cloud. The Gazelle Hb Variant Test is not available in all markets. Gazelle Ferritin Test

An estimated two billion people are affected by anemia worldwide, with iron deficiency anemia (IDA) constituting 66% of total anemia cases. IDA affects a significant portion of the population in nearly every country in the world and disproportionately affects women of child-bearing age, young children, and seniors.¹ Regular testing of ferritin levels provides invaluable insight into patients' overall health. It can lead to early detection of IDA and other hemoglobin conditions.

The Gazelle Ferritin FIA test is a portable, battery-powered, whole blood Ferritin test, with an excellent limit of detection, accuracy, and quantification. It is easy for entry-level health workers to use, with no specialized lab equipment required. Test strip development time is 15 minutes. The test is then inserted into the Gazelle Reader, with results automatically appearing onscreen in 20 seconds. The Gazelle Ferritin FIA Test is not available in all markets. Check our distributor page for availability in your country. This product is not cleared for sale in the United States.

A Future-Ready Diagnostic Platform

Gazelle is designed with the capability to expand into additional tests powered by its core innovations. Built on paper-based microchip electrophoresis and fluorescent immunoassay (FIA) technologies, Gazelle also integrates AI-driven algorithms that continually improve accuracy. Gazelle is backed by a strong global IP portfolio covering hardware, software, and assays, and provides a foundation for a growing menu of tests that will address diverse blood-based and chronic conditions worldwide.

Powerful miniaturized technologies and AI methods enable Gazelle to provide unique, accurate tests

Gazelle integrates trusted technologies into a single platform and uses AI-derived algorithms for automated interpretation of the results.

Our Gazelle Hb Variant Test is powered by our microchip electrophoresis – a miniaturized version of cellulose acetate electrophoresis. Microchip electrophoresis can both identify and quantify critical hemoglobin variants (S, A, F, A2, C/E) in a small sample of whole blood in just 8 minutes. Quantification enables Gazelle to identify more conditions, such as beta thalassemia, at the point of care.

Our Fluorescent Immunoassay (FIA) Technology is a precise diagnostic technique used to detect a wide variety of conditions including infectious diseases and various biomarkers. Hemex uses our proprietary AI-guided imaging to achieve improved sensitivity and quantification. Our Gazelle Ferritin FIA test is based on this technology.

Gazelle’s Microchip Electrophoresis and FIA technologies are versatile testing methods that can be used to diagnose a wide range of diseases. Hemex has a robust menu of tests in our pipeline.

Gazelle includes a comprehensive digital solution

Gazelle stores digital patient reports in the Reader that can be viewed onscreen, sent to a connected printer, or transferred to a sponsor’s database. Users have the option of downloading the reports onto a USB drive for transfer to a personal computer, link to an LIS system, or transfer results to their cloud.

Automatic Upgrades for New Tests

Gazelle Readers can be upgraded automatically “over the air” (with user consent) with new tests and software updates, or the Readers can be updated with a thumb drive using the micro-USB port. Administrators must approve every upgrade.

The Gazelle Cloud Application

Users will also have access to the Gazelle cloud application, which supports these features (date to be announced):

  • Upload of patient reports from Gazelle Readers to the Hemex Cloud

  • Access to Hemex Cloud features by authorized users through web access

  • View online, email or print selected PDF reports

  • Status dashboard for all connected Readers

  • Application Programming Interfaces modules (APIs), to allow 3rd party software development for electronic medical records systems (EMRs) to access to Hemex Cloud data.
